Whether installing a septic system for your new home or replacing a “failed” system in an older home, it’s a big investment. We understand the importance of designing, permitting, and installing the most cost-effective, highest quality septic system that need to last several decades and remain where it belongs – under the ground, out of sight and out of mind.

There are generally three reasons why your home needs a new or larger septic system:

1) Your current home’s septic system has been deemed “failed” in accordance with state law;

2) You purchased vacant land and municipal sewer is not available; or

3) Your home’s current septic system is too small for the number of bedrooms you plan to add to your home.

Contrary to the so-called “word on the street,” the new septic system must be designed by a Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Designer licensed by the state and not come from a plan written on a cocktail napkin.

Vermont and New York have similar rules on who is capable and licensed to design a septic system. There are generally two categories of designers: Professional Engineers (P.E.) and Licensed Designers. Professional Engineers (P.E.) are capable and licensed to design all kinds of septic systems – from commercial to residential. Licensed Designers, on the other hand, generally are only allowed to design a septic system for a single-family home. We have Professional Engineers working on our team who do not have such limitations and are land licensed surveyors as well in the event you plan to subdivide your property.

Before you consider retaining a company to design your home’s septic system, call us and allow our engineers to design your home’s septic system. Our team has decades of experience with the Southern Vermont and Eastern New York landscape, and working with the State of Vermont Regional Engineering offices and New York State’s Department of Health.
